Click Speed Test

Count how many times you can click in one, five, ten or fifteen seconds, see your clicks per second as you go and catch a mouse that double-clicks on its own.

Mouse, tap or the space bar. The timer starts on your first click and stops on its own after 5 s.
Your best score for each duration is kept in this browser only. Nothing is uploaded.

The timer starts on your first click, so there is no countdown to catch. On a phone or tablet, tap the zone. The space bar counts too, which helps on a laptop when the trackpad is what you doubt. Everything runs locally in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How to use the click speed test

1

Pick a duration. Five seconds is the default and is long enough for a steady figure. One second suits a quick burst. Ten and fifteen show whether your pace holds up.

2

Click, tap or press space. The timer starts on your first click, not on a button, so there is no countdown to react to. Keep going until the zone tells you the time is up.

3

Watch the live counters. Clicks, elapsed time and your current clicks per second update as you go. The CPS figure settles after the first second or so.

4

Read the result card. It shows your clicks, your clicks per second and a label for the pace. Your best score for each duration is kept on this device so you can try to beat it. Reset clears the board for another go.

What the results mean

Clicks per second. Your total clicks divided by the duration you chose. It describes your own pace on this device and nothing else. Different mice, trackpads, screens and click styles give different figures.

The pace label. Under 4 CPS is steady, 4 to 7 is quick, 7 to 10 is fast and above 10 is very fast. The labels are only a way to read your own figure, not a comparison with anyone else.

A double-click warning. If two clicks land under 80 milliseconds apart more than a few times, the test says so. A person cannot click that quickly on purpose, so the switch under the button is most likely bouncing and sending two presses for one click.

Your best score. Kept in this browser only, on this device. Clear your browsing data and it goes. Nothing is sent to us.

Space bar counts too. Pressing space registers a click, which lets you run the test from the keyboard on a laptop whose trackpad you doubt, or compare the two on the same machine.

When the mouse is the problem

A high or low CPS is just your pace. What matters for a fault is the double-click warning. A mouse that sends two presses for one click has a worn micro-switch, and on most mice the sensible answer is a new mouse rather than a repair. A laptop is different: a trackpad that double-clicks, misses clicks or clicks on its own is a repair, and we replace trackpads and top cases for all the main laptop brands and MacBook at our Kings Cross workshop, with a free diagnosis and an exact quote before any work. Run the mouse tester to confirm the fault button by button, then see our laptop repair page if it is the trackpad.

Seeing the double-click warning?

Check each button in the mouse tester first. A bouncing switch usually means a new mouse. A laptop trackpad that double-clicks or misses clicks is a repair we do at Kings Cross, open 24/7, with free diagnosis and No Fix No Fee.

Click speed test: your questions answered

What is a good clicks per second score?−

There is no pass mark. The test measures your own pace on your own mouse, trackpad or screen, and the labels are there to make the number easier to read. Use it to compare devices, click styles or a mouse you suspect against one you trust.

When does the timer start?+

On your first click, tap or press of the space bar in the zone. That way there is no countdown to react to. The duration buttons only set how long the run lasts, and changing one starts a fresh run.

Does the click speed test work on a phone?+

Yes. Tap the zone with one or more fingers and each tap counts as a click. Some phones add a short delay to taps, which can lower the figure slightly compared with a mouse.

Why does it say my mouse may be double clicking?+

Two clicks landed under 80 milliseconds apart several times during the run. A person cannot click that quickly on purpose, so the switch under the button is most likely bouncing. Confirm it with the mouse tester, which watches each button separately and shows the gap between presses.

Is my score uploaded or shared?+

No. The clicks are counted in your browser and your best score is kept in this browser on this device only. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else.
